Abstract Watercolor 5 by Maurice Morel

Maurice Morel was born in Ornans, France in 1908. He moved to Paris in 1927 to pursue his double vocation of artist and priest. His friendship with Max Jacob opened various artistic circles where he met and exhibited with many artists such as Picasso and Derain. He was a critic, lecturer, defender of non-figurative Sacred Art, and championed abstract expressionism. He passed away in 1991.

Many of his abstract water colors were studies for non-figurative stained glass. Original signed watercolor on paper float mount behind glass in natural oak frame. Circa 1970.
