Maurice Morel
Paris, France
1908-1991
Maurice Morel was born in Ornans, France in 1908. He moved to Paris in 1927 to pursue his double vocation of artist and priest.
His friendship with Max Jacob opened various artistic circles where he met and exhibited with many artists such as Picasso and Derain. He was a critic, lecturer, defender of non-figurative Sacred Art, and championed abstract expressionism.
Many of his abstract paintings in the 1960s and 70s were studies for non-figurative stained glass.
