Sondra Howell's pressed flower prints were inspired by the craft of pressed flowers that emerged during World War I. Soldiers would pluck wild flowers and weeds from the trenches and carefully enclose them in letters to their loved ones. During the pandemic isolation of 2020, Sandra began her own flower pressing. Pressing each individual bloom, she then scanned them at a very high resolution to exploit the size and imperfections. The end result are individual celebratory portraits that preserve the beauty and color of each unique flower. The prints are fine art pigment based giclee prints.
